REFUGEEINV
LAUNCHED: 2015 | SUSPENDED: 2020
An intensive 5-year research project analysing the migrant influx into Europe and related humanitarian logistical issues from 2015 onwards.
The European Union's failure to enforce unified border policy among the Member States led to significant humanitarian logistics issues for asylum seekers and migrants — particularly in southern and central Europe. RefugeeINV conducted field and desk research to map humanitarian logistics efforts by governments, IGOs, NGOs and civil society organisations. RefugeeINV found a significant collaborative gap between humanitarian actors, which led to severe deficiencies in the provision of NFIs to asylum seekers/migrants.
RefugeeINV partnered with several civil society organisations in a joint attempt to unite humanitarian logistic efforts in Europe. RefugeeINV developed a mapping methodology to build an online logistics platform for NGOs to share warehouse inventory and collaborate in distribution. However, competing funding structures of large NGOs and the limited capacity of smaller civil society organisations substantially reduced an online logistics platform's efficacy.
As a result of RefugeeINV, several projects have been initiated in order to address identified issues. The development of these projects has since been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
