Daniel Elias | Director
Daniel Shajar Elias is the Director of Humanitarian Operations, Logistics, Development and Security (HOLDS) at IISA. Daniel leads the field research initiatives at IISA, focusing on long-term humanitarian crises across the globe. He previously led the IISA Refugee & Border Control programme from 2015 to 2017. Daniel holds an LLB in law and has significant experience in human rights and asylum law.
Fizza Waqar | Lead Researcher
Fizza Waqar leads the research team at HOLDS, with a particular focus on economic elements leading up to and during humanitarian crises. She was previously a researcher on the IISA Refugee & Border Control programme. Eve completed a double major in Economics and Political Science at McMaster University, and also holds a Graduate Diploma in Law from Nottingham Law School. Fizza is currently pursuing a Masters in Economics.
Dr Francesco Trupia | Project Leader
Francesco Trupia is the leader of the RefugeeINV project. He holds a PhD in from Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski, Bulgaria. He also studied Philosophy with a major in Intercultural Relations and Political Sciences and International Relations at the University of Catania (Italy). Francesco has also successfully completed the Advanced Study Programme in Cultural Studies at the New York Institute of the St. Petersburg State University in Russia. Francesco has conducted field research in minority studies and migration since 2014.
